Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about professional carpet cleaning — answered honestly.
How long does carpet cleaning take?
Most homes take 1 to 3 hours depending on the size and number of rooms. A typical 3-bedroom home with a living room and hallway usually takes about 2 hours. We'll give you a time estimate when you book.
How long until my carpets are dry and walk-ready?
With our truck-mounted extraction system, carpets are safe to walk on in about 30 minutes. Full drying takes 4 to 6 hours depending on humidity and air circulation. Running ceiling fans or the AC speeds it up considerably.
Is your cleaning safe for pets and children?
Yes. We use non-toxic, low-VOC cleaning solutions specifically selected for homes with pets and kids. Your pets don't need to leave the house — we just ask that they stay off the damp carpet until it dries, which is about 30 minutes. Once dry, there are no harmful residues.
What cleaning method do you use?
We primarily use truck-mounted hot water extraction (sometimes called steam cleaning). Water heated to approximately 200°F is injected deep into carpet fibers under high pressure, then immediately extracted — along with all the dirt, allergens, and cleaning solution — back into the truck's waste tank.
We also offer OP encapsulation for maintenance cleans between deep extractions. It uses less moisture and dries faster, making it a good option for routine upkeep.
How much does carpet cleaning cost?
Pricing depends on the number of rooms, carpet condition, and any add-on services like pet stain treatment or Scotchgard protection. We don't do bait-and-switch pricing — the quote we give you is the price you pay. Call us at (317) 218-0603 for a free quote.
Do I need to move furniture before you arrive?
Move small items like toys, shoes, and lightweight furniture (dining chairs, floor lamps). Heavy pieces like sofas and beds can stay where they are — we'll work around them and place protective tabs under the legs to prevent any moisture transfer to the carpet.
How often should I have my carpets professionally cleaned?
The IICRC recommends every 12 to 18 months for a typical household. With pets, plan on every 6 to 9 months. With allergies or multiple pets, every 3 to 6 months. Most carpet warranties also require professional cleaning every 12 to 18 months to remain valid — skipping it can void your warranty.
Can you remove pet stains and odors?
Yes — pet stain and odor removal is one of our specialties. We use enzyme-based pre-treatments that break down uric acid at a molecular level, followed by hot water extraction that reaches the carpet pad where odors actually live. For severe or repeat-accident areas, we can treat the subfloor beneath the pad.
What is Scotchgard / fabric protection?
Scotchgard is a professional-grade fiber protector applied after cleaning. It creates an invisible barrier that causes spills to bead up on the surface instead of soaking in immediately — giving you more time to blot and clean before a stain sets. It's especially valuable in homes with pets or young children, and it extends the time between professional cleanings.
Do you clean area rugs?
Yes. We clean wool, silk, synthetic, and handmade area rugs with methods matched to each material. Delicate rugs get gentler treatment to protect colors and fibers. We clean them right in your home — no need to drop them off somewhere and wait weeks.
What areas do you serve?
We serve Carmel, Zionsville, Westfield, Whitestown, Fishers, Noblesville, Brownsburg, and northwest Indianapolis — generally anywhere within 30 minutes of the 46278 zip code. Not sure if we cover your area? Give us a call and we'll let you know.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Gallery Carpet Care is fully insured and bonded. Nick is IICRC certified — that's the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification, the industry's gold standard for professional carpet cleaning training and standards.
How do I prepare for my appointment?
Pick up items from the floor — toys, shoes, pet bowls. Give the carpets a quick vacuum if you can (not required, but it helps). And point out any problem areas before we start — pet stains, high-traffic lanes, anything you've tried to treat yourself. Knowing upfront helps us choose the right pre-treatment products.
Do you offer commercial carpet cleaning?
Yes. We work with offices, gyms, daycares, churches, and other local businesses across central Indiana. We offer flexible scheduling — early mornings, evenings, or weekends — so we can clean without disrupting your operations.
What's the difference between steam cleaning and encapsulation?
Steam cleaning (hot water extraction) uses high-temperature water and powerful suction to deep-clean carpet fibers and padding. It's the most thorough method available and what we recommend for most jobs — especially in homes with pets, allergies, or heavy foot traffic.
Encapsulation uses a low-moisture polymer that crystallizes around dirt particles, which are then removed by vacuuming. It dries faster and works well for routine maintenance between deep cleanings. Many of our commercial clients alternate between the two methods.
